Description

Maerten is part of ibride's Galerie de Portraits, a collection in which Rachel Convers reimagines classical European portraiture through poetic and unexpected characters. With his proud bearing, Maerten releases small butterflies from a gilded cage like messengers of good fortune. The image balances formality and freedom, turning a ceremonial portrait into a poetic meditation on escape.

The tray is designed to move between function and art. Use it for serving, then display it on the wall like a contemporary portrait. Its satin surface gives depth to the illustration while retaining the practical qualities of an everyday tray. A wall fixing is included.

Many portraits from the collection have become collectible as individual designs and editions are retired. Occasionally, ibride revisits a character in a new composition or with a different decorative border, identified as a later edition such as No. 2. Discontinued editions are no longer manufactured and are increasingly sought by collectors looking for particular characters from the series.
